Organ Donation

Most of my clients believe that there is an age limit with respect to organ and tissue donation.  However, to the contrary people age 50 and older account for 32% of donors, and 60% of the total number of transplants in the United States.  Individuals in their 80's and 90's have successfully donated organs, tissues and eyes.  Interestingly, corneas are particularly sought after because they do not age.

The decision to use organs and tissues is based on strict medical criteria, and not the age of the organ or tissue donor.  The doctor will review the medical records and examine the organ or tissue to determine whether it is a viable donation.  For more information, you can visit organdonor.gov.com for more information regarding organ donation.
